Hi,

I read around and had a look at the backup function. I've Linux and Windows KVM vm's. On Linux PostgreSQL and MySQL are used and one Windows server is a trerminal server.

Now my question is: What is best practice to back up VM's like I've described them ?

TIA
Matthias

I would do a vzdump snapshot every week to be prepared for a fast disaster recovery.

Additionally, I suggest to do daily backups with a third party backup tool with special agents for your databases.

and store all these on offline media like tape´s.

what do you miss?

Seen it ... sorry.

OK, but there are different ways to do a backup with vzdump, which one is the best for me ?

TIA
Matthias

I already mentioned it - vzdump snapshots.

And I recommend to use a off-host backup target, e.g. NFS server.

Tom, why do you suggest a weekly and not a daily vzdump snapshot ?

because the backup window is sometimes not big enough during the week. backup produces load on the servers which is not always wanted.
