openVZ just won't die

I'm running the latest proxmox.. updated with aptitude just yesterday..

I now have an openVZ which will not shutdown... well in fact I think it is shutdown, no process in the list on the proxmox server. However the proxmox GUI tells me it's still running..

/tmp/vmops-122.out has this:

UPID:578-17245537:1290497805:vmops:stop:1:122:root
/usr/sbin/vzctl stop 122 --fast
Stopping container ...
Unable to stop container: operation timed out
VM 122 stop failed -

How can I force this one dead to restart it? I really do not want to have to reboot the proxmox server as there are over 30 other servers running.

Cheers,
---Guy

what about trying to use the stable OpenZV - 2.6.18?

Thanks... but why publish the later kernel and recommend it, if it doesn't work with openVZ?

"Beginning with 1.6 the 2.6.32 is the default and recommended branch."

we publish and maintain 4 kernel branches and you need to choose the best one for your needs. for openvz we always point users to 2.6.18.

with 1.6 we have 2.6.32 as default as this is the best for the majority of our users and based on my knowledge today, we will support 2.6.32 a long time. we never said that 2.6.32 has a stable openvz, see http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Proxmox_VE_Kernel#Kernel_2.6.32

Hi,

I am also running the latest kernel, although I am using only OpenVZ (I did not get that it was not the right version for me).

Is there a safe way to uninstall the 2.6.32 and install a 2.6.18 or should I reinstall the Proxmox server from scratch ?

Thanks for your help,
Hakim

Well I tried the "install" procedure you pointed but now I (apparently) have a mix of all versions :

proxmox1:~# pveversion -v
pve-manager: 1.6-5 (pve-manager/1.6/5261)
running kernel: 2.6.32-4-pve
proxmox-ve-2.6.18: 1.6-8
pve-kernel-2.6.32-4-pve: 2.6.32-25
pve-kernel-2.6.18-4-pve: 2.6.18-8

qemu-server: 1.1-22
pve-firmware: 1.0-9
libpve-storage-perl: 1.0-14
vncterm: 0.9-2
vzctl: 3.0.24-1pve4
vzdump: 1.2-8
vzprocps: 2.0.11-1dso2
vzquota: 3.0.11-1
pve-qemu-kvm-2.6.18: 0.9.1-8

Can I go on with such a config now ? Is there a way to clean it ?

Thanks,
Hakim

Hi,
Code:
apt-get install proxmox-ve-2.6.32
should clean your versions.

Udo

you need to adapt your boot loader that it uses now the 2.6.18 by default.
take a look on:

Code:
nano /boot/grub/menu.lst
